Apple Fall Product Rumors (Updated)

Over the past couple years, Apple has had two fall events for the purpose of introducing new products. This year will probably be the same, with an iPhone event in September and an iPad and Mac event in October.

The Next iPhone

A September iPhone event is rumored to feature the next generation iPhone models, which could be called iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. When new models come out, the previous generation models usually drop in price. This could make the iPhone 5s 16GB free with a 2-year agreement (full retail $449), iPhone 6 starting at just $99 (full retail $549) and iPhone 6s starting at $199 (full retail $649). The iPhone 6s Plus would most likely remain $100 more that the regular model at each storage option.

iOS 9

When iPhone launches, the next generation of iOS also launches to the public. This year's version of iOS is iOS 9. iOS 9 was previewed at WWDC earlier this year. Features of the new software include split-screen multitasking for iPad, performance changes, new apps, new features for existing app and much more. iOS 9 will be a free upgrade and supported on iPhone 4S and newer and iPad 2 and newer.

OS X 10.11 El Capitan

OS X 10.11 El Capitan will be released to the public this fall. El Capitan is the newest update to Mac OS X. It features a similar graphic design to Yosemite and boasts major performance improvements and updated features to certain Apple applications. El Capitan will be a free upgrade for qualifying Macs.

New iPads

iPads are nearing the one-year mark since they were updated last October. Rumors of an updated iPad Air are small, possibly suggesting no new updated model at all this year. If no new iPad Air is introduced, it would be the first year that there has not been an updated iPad. However, the iPad mini could see an update with new specs comparable to the iPad Air 2. This would include introducing the A8 or A8X processor to the iPad Mini along with an improved iSight Camera.

Rumors of a larger iPad Pro have been popular for sometime. However, there are not a lot of rumors which suggest that the iPad Pro will be introduced this fall.

New Macs

Previous October events have included new iPads and new Macs. Apple has updated the Mac line throughout the year, with only a few models in the Mac lineup not receiving a refresh. The Mac Pro is one of these models and has not been upgraded since 2013. Mac Mini and non-Retina iMac could also see an update, although the updates would probably be minor - including faster processors and better graphics. Earlier this year, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina Display models were updated. The new 12-inch MacBook was also introduced.
